Designed for practicing valve fixation in cardiac surgery. A fabric backing gives the aortic segment additional stiffness. It allows the correctness of suture placement to be verified. If a sawing effect occurs during knot tying or if a knot is overtightened, the tissue may cut through.

Skills trained:

• Working with cardiac surgical instruments;
• Implanting a mechanical or biological valve prosthesis in the aortic position;
• Studying continuous suture techniques for implanting heart valve prostheses in the aortic position;
• Practicing supra-annular and intra-annular implantation techniques with interrupted horizontal mattress (U-shaped) sutures on the aortic valve annulus;
• Passing needles through the prosthesis sewing cuff, starting from the lower surface facing the ventricle;
• Seating the prosthesis and securing it at the aortic valve annulus, tying the placed sutures;
• Practicing optimal suture tension to reduce the risk of paravalvular leak.
