E.N.D.O. Abscess Incision and Drainage Trainer
E.N.D.O. surgical abscess incision trainer
The E.N.D.O. surgical abscess incision trainer allows practicing the skills of identifying subcutaneous fluid collections, eliciting the fluctuation sign, and performing the stages of surgical management of this pathology.
The model is a rectangular silicone block.
It contains 4 irregularly shaped cavities with a fluid component.
Skills trained:
- Studying the principles of surgical treatment of superficial soft-tissue abscesses;
- Preparing the surgical field;
- Local infiltration anesthesia of soft tissues;
- Palpating a fluid collection;
- Eliciting the fluctuation sign;
- The incision is made over the point of most pronounced fluctuation, while avoiding possible injury to major vessels and nerve trunks;
- The main rule when incising an abscess is to establish free outflow of pus, open all pockets, and drain both the main cavity and its pockets.
- If the main incision does not provide evacuation of the contents, an additional incision (counter-opening) is made in the lowest part of the purulent cavity or on the side opposite the main incision;
- Opening the abscess cavity, evacuating the purulent contents, and draining the abscess cavity;
- The surgical wound is left open without suturing and covered with sterile dressings with ointment;
- Different approaches for acute and chronic (cold) abscesses;
- Treatment of a cold abscess involves not only opening the purulent cavity but also removing the formed capsule.
