Epistaxis Management Trainer
Trainer for practicing epistaxis (nosebleed) control skills
The epistaxis trainer replicates an accurate face model with anatomically correct nasal anatomy. The training system also includes a bleeding control unit with light indication.
The trainee must identify the bleeding point, clear it by suction, and stop the bleeding with nasal packing or cauterization. Cauterization at four sites on the septum is displayed on the light panel and accompanied by an audible signal.
Skills trained:
- Proper care of patients with severe nosebleeds;
- The trainee must localize the bleeding, clear the nasal cavity with a suction device, and stop the bleeding (either by packing or by cauterization)
- Performing anterior nasal packing using the standard Mikulicz loop technique, carried out with a gauze strip 60–70 cm long and 1–1.5 cm wide, angled forceps, and hemostatic paste, or with a gauze strip soaked in an indifferent ointment (synthomycin, levomekol, petroleum jelly, etc.). Packing is performed by laying the gauze strip in loops along the floor of the nose from the nasal entrance to the choanae; the entire pack is placed into the nasal cavity in an accordion-like pattern from bottom to top;
- Practicing cauterization skills;
- The inner part of the nasal cavity contains tubes that simulate capillaries and are supplied with blood simulant; the flow rate through them is adjustable. The tubes terminate at four points on the nasal septum, each equipped with an indicator that lights up upon successful cauterization.
Package contents:
- Rigid plastic head with a soft nasal section;
- Bleeding control unit;
- Operating manual;
- Transport packaging.
