Percutaneous Gastrostomy Trainer with Gastroscope Verification

Percutaneous gastrostomy and internal examination trainer with gastroscope verification. The trainer is a model of the abdominal wall with a simulated stomach for practicing percutaneous gastrostomy skills. The abdominal wall and stomach models are mounted in the trainer's fixing base for stability during the procedure. The design of the stomach model allows the completed procedure to be verified with a gastroscope.

Skills practiced:

• Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) — placement of a dedicated feeding system into the stomach through the anterior abdominal wall under endoscopic guidance;
• Insufflating the stomach until it lies firmly against the anterior abdominal wall;
• Formation by the surgeon of a contact site in the shape of an equilateral triangle, at the center of which the gastrostomy will be placed;
• Fixation of part of the stomach wall to the anterior abdominal wall at the corners of the triangle. Using transillumination, the surgeon avoids large vessels of the anterior abdominal wall to prevent bleeding;
• Performing a through-and-through puncture of the stomach at the center of the triangle under direct visual control;
• Dilating the tract over a guidewire using dedicated bougies.
• Placement of the gastrostomy tube;
• Splitting the outer dilation tube into two leaves and passing the gastrostomy tube along it;
• Inflating the balloon with water for fixation;
• As a result, the gastrostomy tube should be secured by the balloon itself and the three previously placed sutures;
• Introducing this percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy simulator into specialist training programs allows the skill to be practiced on the trainer with no risk to the patient.
