Umbilical Hernia Repair Trainer (Complete Set)

The umbilical hernia repair surgical trainer allows umbilical hernia repair skills to be practiced on small hernial openings not exceeding 3 cm.

The surgical trainer's construction simulates the skin, preperitoneal fat, aponeurosis, muscle layer, peritoneum, and hernial sac.

Skills trained:

• Two transverse incisions are made encircling the hernial protrusion and the umbilicus;
• At the neck of the hernial sac, the aponeurosis is dissected free from the subcutaneous tissue circumferentially over 5–6 cm;
• The hernial sac is opened, the internal organs are reduced into the abdominal cavity, and the hernial sac is excised together with a flap of skin and subcutaneous tissue. The edges of the excised hernial sac are slightly dissected free and sutured in the transverse direction;
• The hernial opening is widened with two transverse incisions of the rectus abdominis aponeurosis until its inner edge appears;
• U-shaped mattress sutures are then placed so that the lower flap lies beneath the upper one;
• With a second row of interrupted sutures, the upper flap is sutured to the lower one, creating an overlapping duplication;
• Sutures are then placed on the subcutaneous fat and skin.
